It’s important to look at several months when evaluating Tesla’s Chinese share. In the second half of 2021, Tesla’s Chinese market share in battery-powered and rechargeable electric vehicles is around 7%, compared to 9% in the first half. This monthly average production rate is up almost 100% compared to the first half of 2021.ĭespite strong production, Tesla’s share of electric vehicles in China is declining. The plant recorded a record production in September at around 56,000 vehicles. The Tesla plant in Shanghai has operated at a rate of around 55,000 cars per month for the past three months. Wall Street and the media typically rely on CPCA data for Tesla’s production in Shanghai and domestic sales figures in China. Tesla did not respond to a request for comment on the numbers.
